We are patriots who want a prosperous and safe country

As a young Polish conservative, working in the European Parliament, I would like to share my perspective on today’s political landscape in Poland, especially in light of growing conservative political thought among young people.

I use the term ‘growing’, since the recent polls indicated that the biggest group voting in favor of the conservative presidential candidate - Nawrocki, consisted of people aged 18-29.

Everything stated below is solely my contribution and my own perspective based on the knowledge I have gained. I am not a member of any political party. I am simply conservative.

2025 presidential election in short
The recent presidential election has clearly depicted a major turn towards the right, especially among the population between 18-29 years of age. In the first round, the conservative candidates have gained in total over 51 % of support. Poland has not seen such a trend in previous elections, especially in the case of party Konfederacja, whose support has significantly risen since the last parliamentary elections.

Still, the establishment centre-left candidate received the highest score, which reassured the ruling coalition (Koalicja Obywatelska) of his alleged victory in the second round. Yet, in the second round, the conservative candidate Karol Nawrocki ultimately won the presidential race - but with a lead of only just over 300,000 votes.

Trzaskowski’s party, the opposing camp, made a serious mistake by proudly celebrating the results of the first exit poll at 9 PM, before the official results were counted and confirmed by the National Electoral Commission (Państwowa Komisja Wyborcza).

Barely 2 hours later, the results of a so-called late poll were released, indicating the victory of Karol Nawrocki. That has led to a national level embarrassment of Koalicja Obywatelska and their candidate, at least, in the eyes of conservatives.

The defeated candidate and his party simply became a meme, with various videos portraying their premature celebration, as the reality quickly shifted. There was even a newspaper front page printed with the unofficial exit poll result, pronouncing Trzaskowski the winner. All of that just in 2 hours.

I highlight this specific situation to illustrate how pride and ideological bias can cloud the judgment of the non-conservative camp and its supporters. In addition, the defeated party is still struggling to accept the failure.

My intention is not to mock these voters, but to point out how deeply some of them resent the opposing side, so much so that they become too proud to grasp the reality and the shifting political landscape.

This landscape, especially in the light of recent presidential elections, gradually reflects a move to the right, with growing support for values such as tradition, faith, family, and secure borders.

What do the results mean?
It can be concluded that the Polish voting population is almost equally divided in terms of political left and right. A turn towards the right is observed. What is interesting, is that the political left camp often fails to show tolerance, respect, or understanding toward conservatives, instead operating with insults and reducing us to a lesser, discredited category.

This pattern was evident during the recent election campaign and continued after the results were announced. Numerous derogatory comments emerged, targeting voters of PiS. As a paradox, most conservatives, in my observation, are very well prepared for political discussions, they use constructive arguments, without pointless insulting or mocking the opponents.

Many of the liberals tend to insult the supporters of conservative camp by calling us peasants, backward-thinking people, people without education, and others, including swearwords. Should a liberal and tolerant fraction behave this way? The answer is for you to figure out.

One of the reasons why I decided to follow the conservative path was the ongoing despise and mockery from liberal friends I have come across. I have never expressed despise or lack of respect towards any of them despite ideological disagreements.

How did the political landscape become so polarized?
The answer is not that complex, at least in my perception. There will always be division for left and right stemming from differing perspectives. Yet, the two recent elections, namely, the parliamentary ones in 2023, and the presidential ones in 2025, have indicated the growing divide.

In my view, the mainstream media, being the mostly viewed in the country, along with its hostile narrative against conservative parties, has been irreversibly driving the polarization. The mainstream media typically favors the left-leaning, liberal parties.

In Poland’s case, the greatest positive publicity is given to the ruling Koalicja Obywatelska (KO), a coalition made of all non-conservative fractions that find unity in opposing the right-wing parties, in particular PiS (Law and Justice).

One of their main goals is to unite all forces against PiS. If one visits websites such as Onet.pl or Gazeta Wyborcza, or watches the news on the TVN channel, one will not find transparent reporting, but rather biased content attacking the right and praising the center-left and liberal side.

At the same time, these media outlets fail to report on the failures of the ruling coalition, which has not delivered on its promises such as “100 promises in 100 days.” Moreover, with the growing influence of social media, liberal activists have gained popularity by attacking the right wing, regardless of whether they use accurate or inaccurate information.

This is another reason why the split in the country has become more present. The situation may well be compared to that of the United States where the country is sharply divided between Republicans and Democrats.

This division is similarly fueled by mainstream, pro establishment, anti-conservative media, as well as celebrities on social media who call on their followers to vote “for democracy,” as if conservatism represented anti-democracy.

In my country, one of the main misleading, false arguments used against the right wing is that it undermines the rule of law, and that only the current coalition can serve as the true guardian of democracy.

Yet, since gaining power in 2023, this very coalition has violated the Constitution. Surprisingly, the mainstream media does not address this issue, nor do the influencers or activists. Instead, media frequently highlights topics such as LGBTQ+ rights or abortion, which are perhaps the primary arguments used against conservative parties. This is why it is crucial to emphasize that abortion is not illegal in Poland. There are specific legal circumstances under which it is permitted. Again, these two mentioned aspects are not as important as economy, prosperity, defense, and safety - along with maintaining our country’s core values.

From a Young Conservative's Perspective
With all that being said, it is time to shed a light on the overall perspective of a young conservative person. The conservatives in Poland advocate for common sense, the preservation of our national traditions, and, of course, our religion - on which the country was built.

The common sense I am referring to has nothing to do with being intolerant or hostile. It promotes, for instance, secure borders and opposition to illegal migration. It is worth mentioning that Poland has accepted at least a million Ukrainian refugees since the war broke out in 2022. Even before that, there had already been significant numbers of Ukrainians, as well as Belarusians, Georgians, and Armenians, living in Poland.

Conservatives stand firmly against forced illegal migration and the Islamization of Europe, which some of us fear is already underway as muslim migrant populations grow in European cities. One of the recent ongoing cases, namely, the attempted invasion of illegal migrants at the Polish-Belarusian border, is a clear example of what conservatives will not accept.

It is the sovereign right of a country to decide whether to admit migrants, and no state should have the power to impose migration on another. Especially not when the group of migrants is perceived as showing no respect for the host country's distinct culture.

With the experience of other Western countries in mind, the Polish right wing does not want to repeat their mistakes. We want to remain the European country that has not experienced a single terrorist attack. This is the kind of common sense that is attracting more and more young people who observe what is happening in neighboring nations, in Europe.

Furthermore, I believe that faith in God forms an integral part of the national identity of young conservatives, at least to some extent. It is natural for us to support the preservation of the family, which is the fundamental value upon which our national identity rests.

The other pillar, I believe, is religion. It was faith and prayer that carried Poland through the hardships of communism, alongside the leadership and spiritual strength of John Paul II. He famously said, “This is my mother, this land.” These words, in a way, capture what truly matters to conservatives: our nation, our land. This is our sense of national identity.

We defend this nation by opposing illegal and uncontrolled migration, by resisting the secularization of a country that has suffered so many atrocities throughout its history, and by standing against woke ideologies that deny biological truths and objective reality.

Speaking personally, I believe there is a place in our society for people who are different. There is no discrimination in Poland against homosexuals, nor was there during the last two terms of the center-right PiS government.
